Peoples Bank in Akron has donated $10,000 to the Akron Opera House for its Building Restoration & Renovation Project.
According to the Akron Opera House website, “The Akron Opera House has served our community for nearly 120 years. The building project will preserve the historic nature of the opera house while making needed renovations to ensure it is a resource in our community for generations to come.”
The donation will go to Phase Three: Parapet & Façade Restoration. This includes restoring the original parapet design, replacing storefront windows and adding a new central entry, and sealing and painting around the windows and trim.
The project is being completed in six phases. The first phase included comprehensive building assessment to identify structural needs that should be addressed before renovation, as well as understanding requirements for historical preservation. The second phase focused on ensuring that existing structure is waterproof and protected, setting the stage for aesthetic and historical improvements on the building exterior, replacing the roof, restoring upper story round windows, and replacing the second story rectangle windows.
